Intoxicated expat driver runs amok

An expat resident of Ajijic, reportedly driving under the influence of alcohol, went on a rampage Monday, September 4, colliding with several parked vehicles and attempting to avoid the intervention of traffic police while en route from the Ajijic Malecón to her residence.


Compactor installed

Leaders of the Ajijic recycling project are hailing Chapala Mayor Alejandro Aguirre and Expat Liaison Aurora Michel for finalizing a contract with the Federal Electricity Commission for the installation of 220-volt lines that allow the Centro de Acopio facility to operate the plastics compactor purchased for the project two and a half years ago.

Super 'Blue Moon' shines over Ajijic

Sky watchers in Ajijic took in an extraordinary heavenly sight Wednesday, August 30 as the second full moon of the month seemed to rise just beside the bell tower of the San Andrés church.

It was not only the occasion of the luna llena occurring twice in the same month, but also a rare coincidence with a super moon that looks larger and brighter than usual due to a closer than normal distance to the Earth’s orbit. The next Super Blue Moon won’t be visible until January, 2037.

Municipal Clinic relaunched

Chapala´s municipal health clinic was formally relaunched at a ceremony held on Wednesday, August 30 to mark the upgrade of services, buffed up installations and a brand new title.

The facility now bears the official name Servicios Médicos Municipales Dr. Juan Rafael Durán Barajas, the late Chapala physician renowned for his lifetime philanthropy and professional care for the community’s most destitute inhabitants.
