Fishermen prepare launch of Lake Chapala’s next in-water farm
Recognizing that Lake Chapala is no longer apt for employing the traditional fishing methods learned from their forefathers, 35 local families have united to venture into the modern day business of fish farming.

The Lake Chapala Duplicate Bridge Club (LCDBC) selected the University Vocational Assistance program (UVA) to be the beneficiary of 7,000 pesos the bridge players raised during their April “charity month.”
In response to two separate complaints of animal cruelty registered last week, Chapala’s ecology office took swift action to rescue three adult dogs and four newborn puppies found to be living in squalid conditions without adequate food or medical care.
The student chorus from Chapala’s Encarnación Rosas primary school (Escuela Urbana 1066) has earned a field trip to the Guadalajara Zoo sponsored by the local government in recognition for winning first place in Jalisco’s 2014 competition for the best interpretation of the Mexican National Anthem (Himno Nacional Mexicano).
Just two weeks into the rainy season, Lake Chapala has already gained substantial ground and continues rising at a steady rate.
