Planning, commitment, cooperation and even serendipity have allowed Guadalajara’s decades-old social club for foreigners to do better than survive, even though the large house owned by the American Society of Jalisco (AMSOC) has virtually closed to members for about three months.

With leisure time no longer at a premium, Soriana supermarkets are offering enticing discounts in their gardening and outdoor section, although you won’t be able to discuss any purchases with your partner, because only one family member at a time may enter the stores.

The American Society of Jalisco (Amsoc) turns 75 this month.  Celebrations, however, will have to be put on ice, as the community organization is closed due to the coronavirus threat.

Guadalajara gourmet chef Lupita Cruz Guerrero, proprietor of Pequeño Gran Gourmet, is an ardent proponent of healthy dietary practices.

The Archdiocese of Guadalajara has stated that RomanCatholic churches will continue to perform Masses, although the service should be suspended if there is indication of contagion.

ECOLOGY FESTIVAL

Guadalajara’s Parque Mirador, overlooking the Huentitan Canyon on the northern edge of the metro area, is hosting its first Ecology Festival Sunday, March 15, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Scheduled activities include live music, an art exhibition, gastronomy zone, crafts for sale, a holistic pavilion,free workshops, yoga master classes.
