During a meeting with Sandoval, Wayne congratulated the governor on his inauguration and asked how the U.S. embassy could support the state’s effort to spur investment and growth.

Later, Wayne met with representatives of the Young Entrepreneurs Council of Jalisco, an association of 650 business professionals from 23 industrial and commercial chambers in the state.  Underscoring the importance of connecting small businesses on both sides of the border, he observed that the success of the coming generations of entrepreneurs will be one of the vital signs of Mexico’s economic health.   Wayne also visited the plant of U.S. information technology company Hewlett Packard.   HP Guadalajara employs over 4,600 people, more than 45 percent of whom are women.  During a tour led by HP Director of Operations for the Americas Gerardo Enkerlin, Wayne commented how investment and access to capital accelerates private sector growth.  He praised HP for its focus on building cadres of employees motivated by opportunities to excel.
