Consumer watchdog shuts airline offices

The airlines affected are VivaAerobus, Interjet, Magnicharter, Delta Airlines, Alaska Airlines, American Airlines, Aeromexico and Copa Airlines.  Fines could reach as high as three million pesos, Profeco says.

The offices are located at the Guadalajara airport, on major city avenues and in commercial malls in the metropolitan area.

According to Profeco, the offices were closed for a range of irregularities.

These included failure to display tariffs to the public, or, when displaying them, not including the full amount (with taxes) of the fare.  The airlines were also cited for showing misleading publicity materials, not providing written quotations for fares and displaying fares in dollars, without the Mexican peso equivalent. Profeco said staff at the offices informed customers that some fares could only be obtained through online consultation but did not provide computers on their premises to permit this.
