We can see you! Zapopan catches surveillance bug

Zapopan city hall has spent 90 million pesos on the center and the cameras.

Zapopan now has 333 cameras installed in different parts of the municipality – most of them in areas with large concentrations of people.

Zapopan Mayor Hector Robles said one of his main public security strategies is the “prevention of crime.”

The cameras will boost efficiency and officer response times in the municipality, Zapopan Police Chief Hernán Guízar Maldonado noted.
In the past Zapopan’s cameras have been criticized because their resolution was insufficient to get positive identification of suspects

The new equipment can identify license plate numbers and includes facial recognition technology, Zapopan authorities stress.
