Vigil to remember murdered innocents

Saturday, December 14 will mark the first anniversary of the brutal slaughter of 20 first-graders and six adults gunned down at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut.

Families of the victims have requested privacy as they quietly relive their grief one year later, suggesting that people can best pay tribute to the fallen by  performing acts of kindness or volunteering with charities.

In solidarity with survivors of the Sandy Hook innocents, Chapala resident Eileen Collard will host a memorial vigil at Paseo Ramon Corona 28, located two doors east of La Vela Plaza at the west end of the Malecon. The gathering starts at 9:30 a.m. People are welcome to come to show their respect and to bring a short reading or poem appropriate to the occasion.

Collard is a passionate advocate for measures to reduce gun violence and stem gun trafficking, an issue that directly affects Mexico.
