Chapala sister city initiative gains momentum

Mayor Moisés Anaya welcomed Gustavo Camacho, his counterpart from Pico Rivera, California, to Chapala November 10 to push forward on establishing an official sister city relationship between the two communities.

pg11bThe first move to cement twin ties for friendship and cultural exchanges between Chapala and Pico Rivera began in 2015 under the administration of former mayor Javier Degollado. Anaya rekindled the initiative in May of last year on a visit to the suburban city located 11 miles southeast of downtown Los Angeles. More than 90 percent of its 62,000 inhabitants are of Hispanic or Latino descent.

Camacho returned home to resume discussions with the Pico River city council’s Sister City commission, with the aim of sealing the deal in early 2021.
