Foreign residents can be vaccinated

Foreign nationals residing in the lakeshore region will be eligible to receive Covid-19 under the federal government’s inoculation program, says Dr. Ramiro Gil, director of Jalisco’s Región Sanitaria IV based in La Barca.

While the application of shots for front-line medical staff starts this month in some parts of the nation, Gil has not yet been informed when the program will kick off in his jurisdiction. Vaccination for persons over the age of 60 are slated for Stage 2, running from February through April, with those of descending age coming up sequentially over the next 12 months.

According to statistics registered by Jalisco’s Health Department (SSJ), verified Covid-19 cases have spiked in Chapala this month, rising from 267 on November 30 to 311 as of December 16. The death toll has likewise jumped from 14 to 24 in the same period.

Figures for Jocotepec are also up, with confirmed cases increasing from 181 to 211 since the end of last month, and the death toll now standing at 16.

The accumulated number of Covid cases in Ixtlahuacán de los Membrillos has gone up from 386 to 410, with three new fatalities for a total of 20. Cases in Poncitlán have risen from 252 to 279 so far this month, with deaths holding steady at 20 over the past two weeks.
