Lake Chapala’s modest rainy season recovery came to a grinding halt and shifted into reverse almost immediately after Jalisco Governor Aristotoles Sandoval voiced a firm commitment to stand up for its protection.

A San Juan Cosala fisherman made the grisly discovery of two corpses as he headed towards Lake Chapala lake to board his fishing launch around 7 a.m. Sunday, August 11.

Lake Chapala is recovering its water level well and has gained 39 centimeters since the first rains of the season began on June 13.

Chapala Mayor Joaquin Huerta appears to be making headway in trimming fat off the city’s spending budget and efforts to protect future administrations from the kind of financial pickle he inherited in taking office just over 10 months ago. But it appears likely he will be sweating out multiple troubles until his term ends two years hence. 

Chapala’s landmark Fuente de Pescadores is fully intact once again following the reinstallation of a damaged piece and other repairs completed on Friday, August 2.
