Three Jalisco state police officers have been dismissed after video showing them striking and humiliating three youths they had just arrested appeared on social media.
The video shows the officers repeatedly slapping the detainees in the face and punching one in the stomach. One of the young men is seen hitting his head against a wall after he receives a slap in the face.
“Why are you crying, why are you crying,” an officer barks at one of the youths.
In the video, the three young men admit having stolen a woman’s cell phone.
Jalisco Attorney General Eduardo Almaguer said the fired officers will face criminal charges, either for abuse of authority, or possibly torture.
Although Jalisco authorities repeatedly insist that torture does not happen in this state, videos such as these give the public much cause to question their assertions.
