Jalisco braces for hot, dry spell

The unusually cold and wet weather affecting Jalisco in March is not here to stay, according to specialists.

The weather this spring is likely to be so dry and hot that it could provoke an above average number of forest fires and thermal inversions, leading to higher pollution levels across the state.

According to analysis carried out by the Institute of Astronomy and Meteorology at the University of Guadalajara, the region should be braced for the full effects of “El Niño” – the periodic fluctuation in sea surface temperature that occurs every three or four years off the coast of South America.

This phenomenon will contribute to an extremely dry season throughout spring and will continue to have an impact until early summer.
