‘Call center’ missing persons case shrouded in mystery

The Jalisco Special Prosecutor for Missing Persons (FEPD) is continuing its investigation into the disappearance of seven young persons from what at first was believed to be a call center operating out of a house in the Jardines Vallarta neighborhood of Zapopan.

pg1aAt least three of the victims are believed to have been abducted by an armed commando that allegedly raided the property located at Calle Victor Hugo 158, Jalisco Attorney General Luis Joaquín Méndez Ruiz told reporters.  Families of the other four say their relatives disappeared between May 20 and 22, and filed missing persons reports with FEPD.

Although first identified as a “call center,” state authorities subsequently revealed that the operation was not registered as a business.  According to Méndez Ruiz, investigators from the the Prosecutor’s Office (FGE) found evidence suggesting the property may have been used as a base to sell timeshares, and, possibly, to pressure and collect from homeowners with overdue mortgage loans.
