Responding promptly to a report received around midnight Sunday, September 6, Chapala police captured a suspected criminal who was fleeing on foot after presumably attempting a hold-up the Ajijic branch of Farmacias Guadalajara.

The municipality of Chapala has seen a significant uptick in home burglary cases this summer, with six criminal complaints filed in June and 11 more reported in July, according to statistics for high-impact crimes registered by the National Public Security System (SESNSP).

Traffic police crackdowns imminent

Following an August 18 meeting with Jalisco’s top security brass, Chapala Mayor Moisés Anaya has announced that state traffic police are planning to re-instate random spot-checks practiced regularly in March and April 2019 along the Chapala-Jocotepec corridor to snare drunk drivers, errant motorcyclists and stolen or improperly documented vehicles.
