Monday music

Classical concerts are held each Monday at this classy and relatively new cultural complex to the north of the city. May 8: A recital by Luis Javier Ochoa on guitar and Santana Cuauhtémoc García Verdugo on flute.

The Jalisco Culture Secretariat’s “Martes de Música y Ópera” series showcases talented classical musicians at free-of-charge Tuesday evening recitals.  May 16: Quintet plays selection of music from Europe and the New World. May 23: “Sacred music, arias and Mexican songs.” Alan Hernandez (tenor), Jessica Alcala (aoprano) and  Héctor Miguel Ocampo (piano). May 30: “Transparencias” with Cuauhtémoc García Verdugo (flute) and Edith Ruiz Zepeda (piano).

Live from the Met

Kill Carmen

MAY CULTURAL FESTIVAL. The Compañía Kaari & Roni Martin from Spain is a contemporary dance company  known for its absurd aesthetics. The ensemble’s Kill Carmen show is simultaneously crude and cruel, alluring and twisted. Led by Roni Martin, the orchestra masterfully combines funk, flamenco and Balkan influences.

Lucky Chops

A five-member New York City brass band that seamlessly fuses the energy of a rock band with the danceability of an electronic dance music DJ.  They came to fame in 2015 after being discovered playing on the subway network.

The Phantom of the Opera

Classic Rock Tribute Festival 

Returning to Teatro Diana for its fifth go-round is the Classic Rock Festival, in which three cover bands pull out all the stops to bring the spectator impeccably rendered simulations of live performances by The Doors, Led Zeppelin and Guns N’ Roses.  Impersonating these three legendary rock outfits are, respectively, DOF, Black Dog and The Appetites.  The first two bands hail from Mexico City, while the third has roots in Guadalajara.

Clayton Brothers
