Mariachi Galas

The International Mariachi Festival presents its six traditional flagship galas at the Degollado Theater, in addition to one “Classic/Magno” concert at the Auditorio Telmex. The nation’s top mariachi bands are joined by the Jalisco Philharmonic Orchestra.

Chamber Orchestra

The Higinio Ruvalcaba Chamber Orchestra presents a program featuring Vivaldi’s Concerto for 2 Violins in A minor, Concerto for 4 Violins in B minor, Mozart’s Divertimento, K. 136, Piano Concerto No. 4, Arcangelo Corelli’s Concerto Grosso in D major, Op. 6, No. 4, and a piece by Tapatío composer Abraham Calva.

Carmina Burana

One of the emblematic works of the symphonic genre, Carmina Burana, is interpreted by musicians from four groups: the Coro Sinfónico Opus 11, Coro Harmonnía, Coro del Conservatorio Nacional de Música, and Camerata Opus 11.

Homage to Orozco

Included in the International Mariachi Festival, this homage to famed Jalisco-born muralist Jose Clemente Orozco and his work “El Hombre de Fuego” (Man on Fire) adorning Guadalajara’s Cabañas Institute features the Mariachi Nuevo Tecalitlán group, plus a full orchestra.

Saxophonist Julian Lee brings a quartet to Guadalajara as part of the New York All-Stars Jazz program.

Discovered by the legendary Mexican singer Vicente Fernandez at age 13, acclaimed ranchera singer Azucena de Jalisco returns home to Guadalajara for a concert accompanied by El Mariachi Nuevo Tecalitlan.

Jalisco Philharmonic Orchestra & choirs

The OFJ offers a precursor to its fall season of concerts, honoring Clemente Aguirre, a lesser-known musician, composer, and conductor born in Jalisco in 1828. Featuring recovered compositions and re-edited works, including “Obertura a Ysabel” and “Suite Jalisciense,” with the Coro del Estado, Coro Monumental de Jalisco and the Banda del Estado.

Journey to Great Britain

The Universidad de Guadalajara’s Higinio Ruvalcaba Chamber Orchestra presents “Un Viaje a Gran Bretaña” (A Journey to Great Britain), featuring classical works by some of the country’s greatest composers.

Cirque du Soleil

The famed Canadian circus arts troupe presents Kurios, a show about a late 19th-century inventor defying the laws of time, space, and dimension.

Mexico’s No. 1 tenor

Mexican operatic tenor Rolando Villazón performs in Guadalajara for the first time in 14 years, accompanied by the Orquesta Solistas de América and guest artists.  Known for his vibrant stage presence and charismatic performances, Villazón has gained international acclaim for his roles in a wide range of operatic repertoire, particularly in works by Verdi, Puccini and Mozart. His program will include pieces by Mozart, Donizetti, Rossini and Verdi.

Folk dance maestros

The Universidad de Guadalajara Folkloric Ballet troupe, generally considered one of the finest in Mexico, offers three performances in their “traditional” home.  See exhilarating dances from different states in Mexico, with a rousing finale of Jalisco classics. A must-see for first-timers to the area.

Quebec ballet

Les Grands Ballets Canadiens de Montreal, Quebec’s first professional ballet company, digs into its repertoire for a performance of a contemporary ballet version of Carmina Burana, orchestrated by Romanian choreographer Edward Clug, with over 150 artists on stage, including dancers, musicians, choristers, and solo singers.
