The Teatro Degollado has opened a free exhibit marking the iconic Guadalajara venue’s 160th anniversary.
On display through September 25 in the theater’s lobby, the exhibit features photographs, posters, programs, audiovisual pieces and oral testimonies drawn from over 7,000 records.
Visitors can discover little-known episodes from the theater’s history, including a 1930s dance marathon that lasted more than 500 hours.
The exhibition’s title borrows the phrase inscribed on the theater’s façade since 1950: “Que nunca llegue el rumor de la discordia” (May the rumor of discord never arrive) — a sentiment that Culture Secretary Gerardo Ascencio says remains relevant today.
