'The Drawer Boy' a must-see drama with humor and heart opens April 25 at Bare Stage Theatre

“The Drawer Boy,” by Michael Healey, is a masterclass in storytelling—an intricate blend of memory, myth and misunderstanding. This poignant and compelling play follows two aging bachelor farmers, Angus and Morgan, whose quiet lives are disrupted by a young actor researching rural life.

As the actor’s presence stirs long-buried secrets, the line between reality and fiction begins to blur, leaving the audience to wonder what’s true and what’s simply a well-told tale. The cast delivers standout performances, bringing emotional depth and nuance to their characters.

Healey’s script is rich with witty one-liners and humorous insights into country living, but beneath the laughs lies a powerful exploration of the human condition. As the story unfolds, it challenges us to consider the impact of our choices and the power of stories—to heal, and to harm.

With its perfect balance of humor and heart, “The Drawer Boy” is a must-see for lovers of great storytelling, unforgettable characters, and a healthy dose of Canadian charm that resonates with our multinational audience. So grab your overalls and head down to the farm—but be warned: the truth lies in the storytelling.
