Choral music
Mayahuel, a female choral group dedicated to the choral movement, is holding auditions this month for its new project, “Harmony,” Ajijic women’s voices. Requirements are that you enjoy singing, love choral music and be over 50. The repertoire is music in English with piano accompaniment by Sofia Ramirez. The auditions are Tuesdays, 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at Casa Musica, Priv. Tepetate S/N, Cielovista, Ajijic. The goal is to prepare for a 25-minute concert for the International Female Choir Festival in Latin America to be held in Tlaquepaque November 19 to 24. After that the choir would increase its repertoire, do more concerts and create a background for the choir to apply to other choral festivals. Bare Stage
The next Bare Stage Theatre production is one of Norm Foster’s most popular plays, “Here on the Flight Path,” with show dates Friday, Saturday and Sunday, July 28, 29 and 30. It’s sure to please Foster’s legion of fans and to make converts of newcomers.
The play is set on two adjoining balconies on the top floor of an apartment building under the flight path of a major airport. The renter of one apartment is John Cummings a divorcee, who encounters three different women who move into and out of the apartment next door over a period of about three and a half years. Cummings is a writer who has a regular column in the local paper with the title “Cummings and Goings”; the play on words becomes all the more prophetic as the plot unfolds.
“The play is sprinkled with edgy, PG-13 humor that leads to big laughs and has been hailed by critics as “a play to make spirits soar” by the Hamilton (Ontario) Spectator; and “fall down funny, heart-tuggingly sad and wildly romantic” by the Mississauga (Ontario) News.
Kathleen Morris directs cast members Douglas Pinkerton playing John, Linda Goman as Fay, Lynn Gutstadt in the role of Gwen and Sheryl Segal as Angel.
Tickets are 200 pesos to join in the fun.
