pg17aIt’s a dark and stormy night – specifically Christmas Eve,1936. The world’s foremost portrayer of Sherlock Holmes, William Gillette, has invited the cast of his latest play, a notorious theater critic and his mother to his newly completed “castle” for the holidays. A murder occurs and, amidst all the revelry and confusion, a bumbling, yet sincere police inspector rings the doorbell … and the game’s afoot!
Written by veteran playwright, Ken Ludwig, (who also wrote “Murder on the Orient Express”), “The Game’s Afoot” will have you not only trying to figure out who-done-it, but also rolling in the aisles.

Roseann Wilshere directs the cast, which includes  Deborah Kloegman, Roxanne Rosenblatt, Paul Kloegman, Linda Goman, Greg Custer, Donna Burroughs, Brian Kaulback, and Kathleen Morris.

Shows on Friday, December 29 and Saturday, December 30 are sold out but there are still some seats available for Sunday, December 31. Lakeside Little Theatre’s next production is the musical “Jesus Christ Superstar,” which runs January 26 though February 6. Directors Ann Swiston and Dave McIntosh are abetted by Music Director Gary Wayne Young and choreographer Roy Haynes. The music is by Andrew Lloyd Webber and lyrics by Tim Rice. BRAVO! Theatre is rehearsing for Lucy Kirkwood’s “The Children,” with show dates January 27, 28, February 2, 3 and 4 at 4 p.m. and evening shows at 7 p.m. on January 29, 30 and February 1.

The play focuses on three friends who get together to reminisce about when were part of a team of nuclear scientists at a nearby plant that had a meltdown.

“The Children” is directed by Bernadette Jones, with a cast of Kathleen Carlson, Deborah Kloegmand and Paul Kloegman. • A new gallery has opened above Pancho’s Market at La Estacion Pizza and Bakery in Riberas del Pilar. Now on display is art from Ruth Casanova and Heide Teichmann.

• Vladimer Cora and Daniel Palma are exhibiting in Gallo Gallery in Riberas del Pilar.

La Cochera Cultural has two concerts planned for the next month, one featuring jazz and the other showcasing flamenco. January 14, they offer an evening of jazz featuring the magic of an exceptional ensemble composed of guitar, saxophone, double bass, and drums. Concerts in the Park will present two concerts in January at the Lake Chapala Society: I Will Always Love You with Diana Villamonte with the Star Boys, Sunday, January 21, 6 p.m. and Ada Vox from American Idol, Sunday, January 28, 5:30 p.m. Tickets, 500 pesos VIP and 350 pesos general seating, are available from the LCS office or via lakechapalasociety.com.

Art in the Garden

An Art in the Garden show with more than 70 artists and craftspeople, is Saturday, January 13, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the gardens of the Lake Chapala Society.  Free admission.
