Lakeside Little Theatre  opens its 60th season with the acclaimed musical revue, “The World Goes ‘Round,” Friday, September 27 at 7:30 p.m.

First staged in 1991, “World” showcases the beloved songs of composers John Kander and Fred Ebb, many of which were made famous by their “muse,” Liza Minnelli, and featured in stage/movie hits such as “Chicago,” “Cabaret,” “Zorba the Greek,” “Kiss of the Spider Woman,” and “Funny Lady.” The show won both the Lucille Lortel and Drama Desk Awards for Best Musical. The New York Times lauded it as “a handsome, tasteful, snazzily staged outpouring of song and dance.”

LLT’s version, directed by newcomer Tim Johnson, will star Kristine Leigh, Brian Mathers, Patrick Trotter, Margaret Stricklett and Janeene Williams. Robert Thieme is the music director. Alexis Hoff and Mary Neill are creating the choreography. In addition, the play will include an eight-member live band and three thrilling dancers. Says Director Johnson: “I’ve always surrounded myself with talent, and then stepped back and let them shine. Well, the cast and crew of this fabulous show do shine! I am so proud of it and what everyone involved has brought to it.”

Veteran actor/singer Brian Mathers concurs: “The music is the most challenging I’ve ever faced, often involving intricate five-part harmonies. But, when we finally get it right, it’s amazing! I feel so fortunate to be involved in this production.”

“The World Goes ‘Round” runs at Lakeside Little Theatre, located on Allen W. Lloyd Drive in San Antonio Tlayacapan, September 27 through October 6. Tickets are available at lakesidelittletheatre.com.

Comedy at BRAVO!

pg17e copy

The brand-new BRAVO! Theatre kicks off its 2024/2025 season with the hilarious and heartwarming comedy “Love, Loss And What I Wore.”

A joyous and often poignant collection of stories about women, it covers all the important subjects—mothers, prom dresses, mothers, buying bras, mothers, hating purses and why we wear black. Performed with a cast of six women portraying almost 30 characters, the play tells the stories of the pivotal moments in their lives framed through the lens of the clothing they wore.

Based on the best-selling book by Ilene Beckerman and written by comedy geniuses Nora Ephron (“Sleepless In Seattle,” “When Harry Met Sally”) and Delia Ephron (“You’ve Got Mail,”” Julie and Julia”), “Love, Loss And What I Wore” has drawn rave reviews and enthusiastic crowds everywhere it has been performed, proving that a great show is always in fashion.

Suki O’Brien directs the superb cast, which includes Debra Felix, Lynn Gustadt, Pamela Johnson, Christine L’Ecluse, Jayme Littlejohn, Kathleen Morris (understudy) and Patteye Simpson.

Show dates are Friday, September 20 at 7:30 p.m., and Saturday, September 21 and Sunday, September 22 at 4 p.m. Tickets, 250 pesos, are available at It’s Kinda Bazar, It’s Kinda Not, and via email at This email address is being protected from spambots. Exhibits

pg17c

• Bajo La Lluvia—Under the Rain, an exhibition and installation by Xill Fessenden, opens Friday, September 13, 5 p.m. at  the Centro para la Cultura y las Artes de Ribera.

Says Fessenden:, “Due to the rain, the town of Ajijic shares a common feeling of joy, especially after a season of extreme heat and drought. This emotion is felt by almost everyone who lives near Lake Chapala. The climate crisis exists. We all see the devastation that are associated with the rains. In ‘Under the Rain,’ I show a series that encompasses a visual reality into the mysteries that can occur when looking through the rain. I don’t focus on the extremes but on these visual realities that distort and change the experience of everyday life. By seeing with a new vision, we become more aware of the changes around us and can seek solutions to the needs of all living creatures on our planet.”

• An exposition of bronze statuary and prints by the late Gloria Eliès is up at Casa del Sol Inn, Javier Mina 7, Ajijic.

• The 13th edition of FotoSeptiembre with photographs by 20 Lakeside area photographic artists can be seen at the Centro Cultural Ajijic through September 22.
