“The Sound of Music” returns to the stage at Lakeside Little Theatre today at 6 p.m. and Sunday, August 3, at 1 p.m. This Spanish-language production by the Centro Regional de Estudios Musicales (CREM) features 30 children, 15 adults, and a live band of eight musicians. Festival del Lago students and faculty will perform a series of string quartet concerts today through August 8 at Haus Der Musik. Ecos Musica para la Paz

Ecos Musica para la Paz, a program created by the Jalisco Culture Secretariat 12 years ago, is helping to create a Symphonic Orchestra in Chapala and will soon begin giving free classes to children ages 6 to 17 years in San Nicolas de Ibarra and Atotonilquillo.

The Efrén González Children’s Art Program is hosting a Children’s Art Sale on Saturday, August 2, 2025, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Art Connection’s “Art in the Plaza” exhibition, to be held in the main plaza of San Antonio Tlayacapan.

 

Photo Classes

By popular demand, Jill Flyer is starting a new series of Cell Phone Photography classes at the Ajijic Cultural Center (CCA). Learn the limitations and possibilities of cell phone cameras, including editing techniques available on your phone.

Two classes with the same content will be offered at the start: Friday, August 1, at 10 a.m. and Monday, August 4. The cost for six one-hour classes is 699 pesos.

The focus will be on composition for portraits, landscapes, and street photography. Jill, an art photographer with international renown, will guide students through slide shows of great photographers in history. Robert Ashin, a well-known landscape photographer, will be a guest lecturer discussing general rules of composition.

Students will also go outdoors for specific photographic assignments, followed by reviews and discussions of all photographs.

Auditions

Lakeside Little Theatre (LLT) will hold auditions for the third play in its upcoming 61st season, Noel Coward’s “Blithe Spirit” on Thursday, August 14, and Friday, August 15, at 10 a.m., with registration at 9:30 a.m.

Directed by Monie King and Peter King, the production features five women and two men. “Blithe Spirit” debuted in 1941 and has since become one of the most acclaimed and frequently revived plays. The hilarious plot revolves around a séance gone awry, where the ghost of the writer’s deceased wife attempts to sabotage his new marriage.

LLT’s production will be staged from December 5 to 14.
