Unique Providencia cafe up and running

The first cafe in Guadalajara staffed entirely by young people with Down Syndrome has opened its doors in Colonia Providencia.

Cafe Córdica21 bears the same name as a local school for Down Syndrome youngsters, as well as the soccer league they play in.

Laura Ruíz Borrayo, the director of the project, says she hopes the cafe will dispel any doubts among Tapatios that people with Down Syndrome cannot live a normal life. “We are starting to change the conception that they are more than just ‘happy little angels’ but people with dignity and rights, and that the more independent they are, the better for them and their families.”
