Care home opens Christmas brunch to all

The Abbeyfield Casas Carinosas home in Ajijic is planning its fifth annual Christmas brunch to be held on Sunday, December 11.

The festivities will begin with no-host cocktails at 12:30 p.m. and lunch, provided by Manix Restaurant, served at 1:30 p.m.

Billed as a relaxing celebration away from the maddening crowd, the event will provide great entertainment with Frankie Dino (Frank Sinatra styled vocalist), as well as an opportunity to have a look at one of Lakeside ’s most interesting housing opportunities.

Abbeyfield is a non-profit home for folks over 65 years old who remain mentally and physically fit or have need for partial assistance. There are three suites in the main house and one suite next to the four casitas located in the rear of the property. The casitas are available for single or double occupancy. Monthly costs vary according to the size of the room or casita or the number of occupants. The cost includes the space, utilities and food, as well as salaries for the house manager, common area maids and the gardener. The facility lends itself well to those who wish to live independently in a family environment—on their own but not alone.

The kitchen is well stocked and residents can choose their breakfasts from an assortment of foods set out for them and can prepare their own lunches and snacks. Evening dinners are nutritious, prepared by the house managers or sometimes brought in from favorite local restaurants.

The location at Calle del Lago 9, in the heart of the village makes it easy for residents to walk to shops, restaurants, local clubs and events. A new three-month trial period is available for potential residents.

Tickets for the Christmas Brunch cost 250 pesos and are on sale now from Brian Howard at 766-2794 or Ruth Darling at 766-1977.
