Norma Cannon, president-elect of the Ajijic Rotary Club for 2013, has stepped up to the office early following the resignation of Gary Fuller in August.
Cannon is a native of Colombia who lived in the United States for many years, and currently works in Ajijic as a certified court interpreter/translator. She transferred from the Guadalajara Rotary Club several years ago.
The celebration on August 28 was light hearted, with Cannon being crowned with a tiara by former President Sandra Lordians. The celebration was graced with the presence of past Rotary District 4150 Governor and now District Secretary Manuel de Jesus Nandayapa Garcia, a great friend and mentor to Cannon, who performed the official swearing-in ceremony. Members stood for a tequila toast and cheered the new leader, along with her husband, Rory Cannon. Many out-of-town Rotarians were on hand for the occasion and after the official meeting, Cannon joined them for a party at the home of club members Bill and Barbara Wilson.
Cannon’s first order of business will be to oversee plans for the upcoming Independence Day fundraiser at the Las Caballerizas Coxala Restaurant in the Raquet Club on September 14.
