Chapala gears up for Mardi Gras bash

The Chapala government and local entrepreneurs Alberto Alcantar Medeles and German Lopez Garcia have revealed early details on the town’s annual Mardi Gras festivities, set for February 1 through 12, 2013.

The two young businessmen were contracted in exchange for a 300,000 concession fee to the city. They bring together ample experience in organizing big entertainment events, including several previous Carnaval celebrations.

As usual, most activities will be headquartered at La Cristiania Park, where visitors can enjoy live music and cultural programs for all tastes, mechanical rides, food and drink stands and a huge commercial fair.

This time around the organizers have booked some innovative family-oriented attractions, such as an ice skating rink and a marine life stage show featuring performing seals. Also on the bill is the Pedro Domecq equestrian spectacle showcasing pure blood horses schooled in “airs above the ground” and other disciplines under the rein. According to local custom, the festivities will kick off with the traditional Entierro del Mal Humor (burial of bad humor).
