Carnaval capers come to a close

Life along Chapala’s north shore has quieted down again following two straight weeks of boisterous carousing that marked Carnaval festivities in Chapala and Ajijic.

Chapala’s big party included opening and closing night musical extravaganzas that rocked on until the wee hours with crowds of more than 5,000 hardy souls in attendance. The 12-day program offered a wide range of entertainment to satisfy all tastes and age groups, with a great mix of traditional activities and innovative attractions.

The Ajijic celebration was essentially condensed into the February 12 all-day blowout that started with the distinctively kinky Mardi Gras parade and ended with an after dark fete at the waterfront Malecon.
