Gordon was also honored with second place for a jacket in the wearable art fashion show.Lakeside’s Linda Sherman was awarded third place in the “Viewer’s Choice” category.
Joyce Osborne was recognized at the opening ceremony for her years of dedication and hard work teaching quilting. She displayed her technique and ability to turn fabric and thread from mundane items into beautiful flights of fancy and artwork in 15 masterpieces.
Gordon and Osborne have been teaching quilting in Mexico since the first expo was held in Zacatecas five years ago. Many who have attended their classes at the expos have gone on to open their own quilt shops.
The expos started out showing quilts but now include classes, exhibitions of wall and wearable art, and vendors booths. They also showcase the innovations that sponsors Bernina, Janome and Brother have come up with to make sewing and quilting with their machines even easier.
Anyone interested in quilting is encouraged to attend the monthly Ajijic Guild meetings held the second Tuesday of the month at Osborne’s hime. Email Osborne at joyce This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. for more information.
