Local expat residents will soon have another option for an enjoyable and unusual week-night out, while delving into music and participating in tequila, mezcal and craft beer tastings.
The Song of Mexico Drinking Club will meet on the first Thursday of each month at Ocampo 71, the restaurant located on the corner of Ocampo and Aquilles Serdan in Ajijic.
Mark Boyer conceived the idea of the new club with his wife Marianne. “It’s for people who want to learn or sing the popular and traditional songs of Mexico, savor this country’s different drinks, and enjoy the company of good friends,” he says.
Beginning on Thursday, September 3, Ocampo 71 will offer a tequila, craft beer or mezcal tasting between 7 and 8 p.m., with brief background information about each offering for 40 pesos per person. The first time out will feature tequila.
From 8 to 9:30 p.m., the group will learn from three to five songs under the direction of local favorite Sergio Casas, who will serve as host singer/musician.
“Each month we’ll finish up by singing some of the songs we learned in previous months,” Boyer says. “After a few meetings, we should have a fun repertoire of songs to sing together.”
