Cruz Roja Chapala was pleased to receive a suitcase stuffed with valuable medical supplies donated by “Not Just Tourists” Toronto.
The non-profit group has a record of giving away more than 10,000 suitcases in 82 different countries, each typically filled with gauze, bandages, surgical instruments and similar non-drug items.
Toronto resident and part-time lakesider John Adams delivered the first kit for Chapala on Tuesday, February 9. More should be arriving here as other Canadians participate in the program based in Calgary, Edmonton, Winnipeg, Montreal and other locations across the country.
“We very much appreciate this donation and hope more Canadians become involved,” says CRC Delegation president Norm Pifer. “Since we receive no government support, we survive primarily with donations from local foreigner volunteer groups, event and raffle ticket sales, local business contributions and partial recovery of service charges at the clinic. We welcome any and all equipment and material donations such as this.”
