Weekly Worship - July 01, 2023

Heritage Baptist Church of Mexico

What? Another breakaway church?

The sermon last Sunday was crystal clear: Lakeside does need yet another church. Here’s why: We true believers look for churches that preach the Gospel, the all-important doctrines of grace and God’s sovereignty, and brotherly and sisterly love. Unfortunately, the focus in Christian churches the world over is much more likely to be on “What can God do for me?”

Churches should operate solely under Christ’s light (The direct lordship of Christ). This is what makes us an eternal family, and it is so precious to us. There never was, nor ever will be, a perfect church, but as we know, it’s God’s wisdom to sow the tares with the wheat, and He is the only one capable of separating them without wreaking destruction.  Therefore, we must strive for doctrinal stability and genuine unity of spirit.

The Apostle Paul calls us “the Church of the Living God.” The living Church! Owned by and through God, for His own glory. He chose it, He bought it, He owns it. We are invisible to the world as the house of God. But we, as living stones, should be visible to one another. And Christ builds that house without compromise, hesitation, modernizing, or apology. We are called to defend the truth of God with every fiber of our being, and we will be His pedestal of truth in a world of darkness, division, and indifference.

That, beloved, is why Heritage Baptist Church is needed in Chapala, in Mexico, and in the world.

Join us at 11:30 a.m. in the Upper Room at the Presbyterian Church in Riberas del Pilar. Open prayer, then the worship service at 11:45.

Lakeside Presbyterian Church

Pastor Carolyn, will talk this Sunday, July 2, 11 a.m., about setting boundaries.

In his last days, the story goes that the Apostle John was fragile and needed to be carried to church. And he would just repeat, “Little children, love one another.” That was his message in a nutshell for Christian believers. But there’s more to John than just that. In fact, in his brief epistle we’re discussing on Sunday, he lets his friends know that they have to draw the line with some people; it would be wrong to extend hospitality to these folks. This can be a difficult word to hear, but we know that no other human being would know better than the Apostle John why and  where we should set proper boundaries.

English-language service begins at 9:30 a.m. Spanish service begins 11 a.m. The English service also streams each Sunday at facebook.com/LPCChapala.

Sunday, July 2, Reverend James Twyman will preach and celebrate at the 10 a.m. service.

“Scripture And Art,” a six-week lectionary and art adventure seminar led by Pastor Michelle, will explain the Anglican/Episcopal lectionary, which is composed of the three Bible readings—Old Testament, New Testament (Epistle) and Gospel—heard in every Sunday service.

The seminar, which runs six Wednesdays from July 5 through August 9, will be held at St. Andrew’s Anglican, and will also cover the role of lectionary art that serves to enhance each Anglican/Episcopal scriptural engagement and understanding.  Pastor Michelle says that the seminar will be both an intellectually and visually stimulating experience.

To allow for more hearty discussions, the series is limited to 10 people per each of two sessions: 10 to 11:30 a.m., and 1 to 2:30 p.m.  The public is invited.

What makes a good worker? Have you seen the workers in road construction or the one building your house with one hand holding their cell phone talking and the other occasionally moving material?  No one would consider them good workers. As believers we are told to do what is required even when the boss is not watching. A good worker is not all talk but one who does the will of the master. Come Sunday, July 2, to be challenged to be the kind of worker Jesus is contracting.
