St. Andrew’s Anglican Episcopal Church

Sunday, August 13, Reverend  James Twyman will preach and celebrate at the 10 a.m. service.

“Scripture And Art”: The final session of this six-week seminar, led by Pastor Michelle, was held Wednesday, August 9th.  Her seminar explained the Anglican/Episcopal Lectionary, which is composed of the three Bible readings–Old Testament, New Testament (Epistle) and Gospel—heard in every Sunday service. The seminar also covered the role of lectionary art that enhances each Anglican/Episcopal scriptural engagement and understanding.  Pastor Michelle says that the seminar was both an intellectually and visually stimulating experience.

Be on the lookout for a continuing Lectionary study seminar in the near future, to be held both in person and on-line.

Pastor Michelle is also planning to lead themed video studies on a variety of religious/spiritual studies for modern-day application. Please let her know your interests in this area.

St. Andrew’s live streams Sunday services and sermon highlights on its Facebook page: St Andrews Anglican Lake Chapala.

Heritage Baptist Church Chapala MX

Sunday morning, Rev. John Linton brought us a rollicking good story from the book of Nehemiah. It seems that after the destruction of Jerusalem, Nehemiah prayed for four months to be able to go there and help his people. As cup-bearer to King Artaxerxes, “The Iron Claw of Assyria,” approaching this murderous monarch with such a request would normally forfeit one’s life.

When should we wait upon the Lord and when should we act? It’s often a difficult decision. God can change your plans in midstream; And He will change us for His glory. How is God moving in our lives?

Like Nehemiah, we need to become aware of the way in which God works.

Nehemiah’s story had a happy ending. God supernaturally provided an opportunity for Nehemiah to go home, where his heart was. And when God finally opened the door, Nehemiah, faithful servant, took a stand and asked The Iron Claw of Assyria for permission to leave. “The King granted my request, with the good hand of God.” (Neh. 2:4-8)

When God opens a door, He will provide you with everything you need to enter. The question is, can you discern a door that’s been opened?

Lake Chapala Baptist Church

For I was hungry, and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty, and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes, and you clothed me, I was sick, and you looked after me, I was in prison, and you came to visit me. “The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’ (Matthew 25:35-36 …40)

Last week we spoke about loving your neighbor and that everyone is your neighbor. He went onto say what He expected in Matt 25:35-36, 40. If someone is hungry or thirsty, give them food, water, and shelter.  If they are naked, sick, or in prison, care for them. These are not suggestions, they are commands. We must take care of others, and not just those close to us. We cannot walk away from those in need and still follow the words of Jesus. Jesus made it clear that what we do for the poorest and most needy of us, we do to him. We need to live by his words.
