Shriners shine on Día de Niños

Members of the Lake Chapala Shrine Club joined their fellow Shriners in Guadalajara to sponsor a special Día de los Niños toy giveaway for young patients at the Shriners Children’s Clinic in the city.

An assortment of stuffed animals, dolls, balls and other toys was distributed among the 40 children who attended the celebration.

During the Children’s Day event, artist Olga Ortiz Calderón presented a whimsical painting she donated to brighten the clinic’s décor. She created the artwork in honor of her daughter, Mariely Ramírez Ortiz, who underwent surgeries and treatment at the clinic between the ages of 10 and 12 to correct congenital conditions affecting her left hand and back. Now a healthy woman in her late 20s, Mariely gave birth to her first child in March—a joyful testament to the miracles made possible by the donors who generously support Shriners’ missions in Mexico.º
