Anavets Unit 19 Mexico held its 6th anniversary party on Wednesday, September 16 at Scallion Ajijic Bistro. Some 100 folks were in attendance. Open Circle
Ballet Folclórico Infantil Son De México De San Juan Cosalá presents “Son de México: Keeping Mexican Traditions Alive” at Open Circle on Sunday, September 27, from 10:30 a.m. to noon at the Lake Chapala Society.
Experience the color, rhythm and energy of Mexico as the young dancers bring regional traditions to life. Based in San Juan Cosalá, this local dance organization helps a new generation discover pride in its cultural roots through music and movement. The presentation will feature dances from various Mexican states, showcasing distinctive costumes, music and zapateado footwork while sharing the traditions behind them. See how these talented young performers are preserving a rich cultural heritage and carrying their love of Mexico into the future. (Donations from this performance will go directly to Son de México to help fund their activities.)
Luis Guzman, the group’s director, was a former dancer with the famed Ballet Folclórico of the University of Guadalajara. He has been training dancers for over 20 years. The quality of his teaching is outstanding, and his dedication to the community is inspiring.

Dr. Andres Zuccolotto Villalobos’ book, “Winds, Woods and Knowledge, Navigation, Community and Naval Construction in Lago de Chapala,” will be presented on Saturday, October 3, 6 p.m. at the Museo Comunitario in San Antonio Tlayacapan. Free copies will be available.

Octoberfest
American Legion Post 7 Chapala Auxiliary is holding its yearly Oktoberfest celebration on Saturday, October 3. Doors open at 1 p.m., and food is served from 2 to 4 p.m. The menu includes pretzels and mustard, classic bratwursts and sauerkraut, German potato salad, and German chocolate cake. Oktoberfest beers from Cervezeria 8 Maltas will be on hand. Tickets are 300 pesos (100 pesos more for an extra brat) and available at the Legion.
Needy family
A fundraiser for the Raul More family to help rebuild their home in Ajijic after it went up in flames six years ago will be held Wednesday, October 7, 4 to 6 p.m. at La Estacion Restaurant in Riberas del Pilar. Music will be by Opera del Lago and A Grand Night for Singing cast members, with musicians JuanPi Medeles and Jesus Medeles, Robert Thieme and Cindy Youell. Cost is 500 pesos at the door. Thrill the World
The 16th edition of Thrill the World Ajijic will be held at a new location this year: Instituto Terranova at Rio Papaloapan 19 in Rancho del Oro. The event is Saturday, October 24, 3 p.m. Funds raised will help ANAVETS Mexico Unit 19 support veterans and other local community charities.
