The date has been set for the Seventh Annual Lake Chapala Shrine Club Ribfest: March 6, 2013 from 2-6 p.m.
This year’s Ribfest will feature Tony’s “world famous” ribs and chicken for those who prefer. Tickets are 350 pesos each and are currently available from Noble Denis de Kergommeaux at 766-2200 or Noble Francis Dryden at 766-4619 (or any other Shriner).
Ribfest tickets could make a nice Christmas present for family members and/or friends.
The location is the same: Villa Encantada located on the curve heading into Chapala from Ajijic.
This event is always a highlight of the season so get tickets now!
Bazaar
The community bazaar will go on as scheduled for Sunday, November 25, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Flora Exotica at the corner of the Libramiento and the Carretera. Besides everyone selling their wares to support their charities, this will be a dog/cat adoption day. Anyone who has or knows of a dog or at that needs a home is welcome to bring the animals to the event. However, the animals must be leashed or in a carrier and current on their vaccinations. Please contact organizers in advance at 765-4916 to be sure there is still space available.
Family
The Genealogy forum meets Monday, November 26, 2 p.m. in the Sala at LCS. This month’s presentation will be about publishing your research, your family history stories or Great Aunt Mabel’s famous recipes. What are some of the options? How much will it cost? How hard is it to do?
This presentation will be helpful to anyone wanting to publish anything … not just family history. Everyone is welcome. For further information contact Fran Murphy at 766-0067.
Seminar
The Tuesday, November 27, noon seminar in the LCS Sala is available to LCS members and will be chaired by Fred Harland. This TED Internet podcast is of Bill Doyle demonstrating the use of electric fields to interrupt cancer cell division, raising the possibility of treating cancer without loss of quality of life.
Canadians
The Canadian Club of Lake Chapala invites everyone to a presentation “Secrets of the Primavera Forest, What You Can See and Do,” presented by author and Guadalajara Reporter contributor John Pint.
The event will be on Thursday, November 29 at La Nueva Posada, Donato Guerra 9 in Ajijic. The social hour begins at 3 p.m. and the program at 4 p.m.
Yearly club membership fee is 180 pesos and includes four 25-peso drink tickets. There is a 50-peso charge for guests.

Holiday Fair
The Ladies Auxiliary of American Legion Post Seven holds their 12th Annual Arts and Crafts Holiday Fair on Sunday, December 2, opening to the public at 9 a.m.
The event features all kinds of decorator items of the season, a huge range of items for gifting and an “arts in the kitchen” brunch with quiche, fruit cup, muffin, juice or coffee and a small glass of wine for 60 pesos. There will be a “spin-the-wheel,” game, Tarot card readings, and the auxiliary’s famous “Take and Bake” sale. You’ll find most everything you need for a happy season.

Bus trips
The Lake Chapala Society (LCS) will sponsor two trips to Guadalajara’s Galerias Mall next month. The first is on Wednesday, December 5 and the second on Wednesday, December 19.
This large indoor mall and its surrounding area has plenty of stores and restaurants, including Liverpool, Sears, Best Buy, Walmart, Sam’s, Costco, Mega, Applebee’s, Chili’s, Krispy Kreme and others.
The bus leaves from the La Floresta sculpture at 9 a.m. and returns from the Costco area at 3:30 p.m. The price is 200 pesos. Sign up at the LCS table Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Cruz Roja bus
The Cruz Roja volunteers host a bus trip to plush Plaza Andares in Guadalajara on December 18.
The bus leaves from the auditorium in La Floresta at 2 p.m. Participants will have time to shop, eat at one of the many fine restaurants in and around the mall, and enjoy the festive Christmas decorations and entertainment that the plaza has to offer in the evenings.
The bus returns from the mall at 8 p.m. and arrives at the auditorium between 9 and 9:30 p.m.
Tickets are 200 pesos per person and can be purchased at the Cruz Roja table on the LCS campus.
Christ Church Anglican
Christ Church will celebrate the Last Sunday after Pentecost, the Feast of Christ the King on November 25 with the Holy Eucharist Rite II at 9:30 a.m. at The Little Chapel by the Lake.
The theme of Father Danny Borkowski’s sermon is “Who is really on Trial?,” based on John 18:33-37. There will be a time of joint fellowship for the congregations of Christ Church and the Little Chapel after the 9:30 a.m. service and before the 11:15 a.m. Little Chapel service.
St. Andrew’s Anglican
For Christians in the liturgical tradition, this Sunday marks the end of the Church year. It’s a Sunday when people of faith look backward with a little nostalgia and forward with a lot of hope – a day traditionally known as Christ the King Sunday. With Bible readings full of mystery and grandeur, this week’s sermon at St. Andrew’s – “The Baby King” – reflects on the paradox of a monarch who comes in the guise of an infant, a King who can suffer a criminal’s death. Worship at St. Andrew’s begins at 9 a.m. and is repeated at 11 a.m. with a time of fellowship, welcome and refreshment between the two services.
St. Andrew’s is located at Calle San Lucas 19, just a block south of the Carretera in Riberas del Pilar.
Presbyterian
Sunday, November 25, Woody Dee will be the guest preacher at the 10 a.m. English-language service for Lakeside Presbyterian Church. His sermon title is “The Solenoid Verse.” The church is hosting a free movie, “Love’s Unfolding Dream,” on Friday, November 30, with soda and popcorn provided. The movie begins at 6 p.m.
The regular Friday morning Bible study won’t meet again until Friday, December 14. The church is located on the mountain side of the Carretera just west of S&S Auto and Bubba’s Restaurant.
Mary Alice Sargent, collector extraordinaire of manger scenes, has donated much of her collection to Lakeside Presbyterian Church. The hundreds of manger scenes from around the world will be on display at the church on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday, December 5, 6, 7 and 8 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. There will be a free luncheon served from noon to 2 p.m. on December 8. All are welcome. The collection is a remarkable one and just the thing to put you in the holiday spirit.
Unitarians
The Lake Chapala Unitarian Universalist Fellowship meets each Sunday at 10:30 a.m. at Santa Margarita 113 in Riberas del Pilar. Sunday, November 25, the presentation will be given by Sue Kelley and his entitled “Faith in Our Future: What Do We Need to Meet the Challenges of Our Time?” Mary Helen Montgomery will be the service leaders. Most of the talk comes from Peter Morales, president of UUA. He discusses the three things that must be done to survive as a religious movement in our changing world.
