Tourist police
The Chapala government has revived the municipality’s Tourist Police unit after a lapse of several years. The initial team of five officers will be dispatched alternately to patrol the Malecón sites in Chapala, San Antonio Tlayacapan and Ajijic, equipped with bicycles and various motorized vehicles. All officers possess strong knowledge about local tourism and a basic command of English.

• Birdwatching at the Lake: Join Regina Losa for a theoretical and practical workshop on birdwatching at Lake Chapala, where you’ll learn about the behavior and habits of the birds in the area and their importance to the ecosystem.
This workshop will take place on July 18 and 19 at Inspire Colab, located at Independencia 133, San Antonio Tlayacapan.
Friday, July 18: The theory session runs from 7 to 8 p.m. Explore the fascinating world of local birds, their role in the ecosystem, and how we can help protect their habitat.
Saturday, July 19: From 7 to 9 a.m., meet at the roundabout on the San Antonio Tlayacapan Malecón to put your knowledge into practice by observing the birds in their natural habitat. • Self-Care Workshop for Domestic Workers: A free self-care workshop for female domestic workers will be hosted by psychotherapist and body-awareness specialist Noris Binet on Monday, July 21, from noon to 2 p.m. at the Centro para la Cultura y las Artes de La Ribera.
This workshop is open to all female household workers aged 18 and older. Participants will learn practical tools to improve mental and emotional health, including relaxation techniques.

Open Circle
Actors David Ellison and Chris L’Ecluse from Bare Stage Theatre will present a scene from Death of a Salesman: A Study in Self-delusion and Dementia at the next Open Circle meeting on Sunday, July 20, at 10:30 a.m. at the Lake Chapala Society. This is a chance to hear director Rosann Balbontin discuss her interpretive and directorial process in bringing this iconic play to life.
Balbontin, a retired educator, has taught high school English, drama, and Latin and trained at California’s American Conservatory Theater.

• Day Out of Time: Natalie Arzate will host a sacred pause on Friday, July 25, 5:30 p.m. at Emiliano Zapata 3 in Ajijic. The event focuses on forgiveness, gratitude and purification, and will include smudging, a Mayan prayer ceremony, ceremonial cacao, sound healing, meditation, water blessings and offerings.
Participants are asked to bring flowers, seeds, or fruit for the altar, a pen and notebook, water, and an empty jar with a lid.
