Cantinas struggle amidst the uncertainties of Covid

Guadalajara’s cantinas have been on a rollercoaster for the past six months since the coronavirus pandemic broke out.

While the city remains in the Orange Phase, the majority of the city’s bars and cantinas are waiting to reopen. At the same time, a handful of others are open under the guise of restaurant-bars.  CANIRAC Jalisco (the Cámara Nacional de la Industria de Restaurantes y Alimentos Condimentados) predicts that cantinas will reopen this month. Yet Jalisco Governor Alfaro’s recent pronouncements that he will consider stricter shutdown orders if Covid-19 cases do not decrease paints an uncertain picture for cantinas.
