Nothing reflects the damage to and perseverance of Guadalajara institutions better than the Museo de Periodismo y las Artes Graficas (Museum of Journalism and Graphic Arts, MUPAG), one of about 10 museums operated by the municipality.
This historical museum (popularly known as La Casa de los Perros due to two heraldic dog statues erected on the roof by the owners of the former finca), was just re-opened April 30 including a lovely exhibit, “Rio entre Aguafuertes,” consisting of about 30 masterful aguafuerte prints in a gallery on its upper floor, many of them created in a renowned workshop held locally after the year 2000. Aguafuerte is a type of intaglio printmaking using strong nitric acid, and generally produces black-and-white images.
The iconic museum had been closed for six whole years, due partly to the pandemic but also to a literally cataclysmic event explained ahead, that causes MUPAG, although open, to remain under restoration.
