Just as some economists warn of a global slowdown lurking dangerously on the horizon, one of Guadalajara’s largest employers and most forward-thinking companies is making plans to expand its workforce by one-third.
Over the next three years, Jabil Guadalajara, which celebrates its 25th anniversary in November, will construct two new manufacturing sites in the city, adding another 6,000 jobs, bringing its total to 22,000. Such is the contribution Jabil makes to the local economy that Jalisco Governor Enrique Alfaro made Jabil’s California headquarters his first stop on his recent tour to the U.S. state.
Although Jabil may not be a household name to many people, the chances are this company spanning 30 countries has played a role in the manufacture or design of an appliance that you have used over the past 24 hours.
Boasting 363,000 square feet of manufacturing space at its eight Guadalajara buildings, six of them located in the modern Technology Park on the Nogales highway, Jabil churns out a vast range of electronic components and assemblies for brand name equipment manufacturers in many sectors, including telecom, healthcare, industrial and mobility. The company’s Guadalajara arm also extends to plastic injection molding and metal mechanics and represents the biggest percent of all Jabil’s sales in Latin America. It has earned an enviable reputation for innovative practices, including the design and implementation of an inventory control system that is used at Jabil locations around the world.
