TV viewers in this part of the world awaiting the third season of “Ted Lasso” will be keeping their fingers crossed that one character continues his role in Apple TV’s feel-good comedy about a U.S. college football coach hired to coach an English soccer team, and his efforts to understand the baffling local culture.
That character is Dani Rojas, played by multi-talented Guadalajara-born actor Cristo Fernández, who in 2016, after obtaining a degree in communications at the city’s UNIVA university, headed across the pond to study for a master’s degree at the Guildford School of Acting at the University of Surrey, one of the most highly regarded theater schools in the United Kingdom.
In the series, Fernández takes the role of a Latino player on the fictitious English Premier League soccer team, AFC Richmond, whose owner Rebecca Welton (played by Hannah Waddingham) hires Lasso (Jason Sudeikis) despite him having no experience coaching soccer.
Welton hires Lasso hoping he will fail as a means of exacting revenge on the team’s previous owner, her unfaithful ex-husband. However, Ted’s charm, personality and humor begin to win over Rebecca, the team, fans and media bewildered by his appointment.
