Canada has established itself as the premier destination of choice for international students looking for affordable graduate or post-graduate degrees at high quality universities and colleges.
And the numbers keep on rising.
In 2022, just over half a million new international students—107,145 more than in 2021—from 184 countries enrolled at Canadian higher learning institutions, bringing the total number holding valid study permits to 807,750, the highest figure in recorded history.
Slightly under half of the new intake was from India with 226,450 students, followed by China with 52,165 and the Philippines with 23,380. Mexico was ninth on the list, sending 10,405 new students to Canada last year.
According to a recently published survey of 20,000 international students undertaken by IDP Connect, Canada is now the most popular destination for international students among the four main English-speaking nations, with 27 percent saying it would be their first choice. Australia comes in second with 23 percent, the United States third with 21 percent and the United Kingdom last with 18 percent.
