Thank you my furry friends!

Dear Sir,

I had always had cats until about a year ago when I adopted two little dog sisters from a nearby Mexican family.  Of course we had our mishaps during potty training and those long months of teething but recently I’ve learned a new respect for having dogs as pets.

Roughly four weeks ago, they awakened me at about 3 a.m. barking at something in the garden.  I looked out the window and saw a man dropping over the wall.  The police were called, came within ten minutes and did a thorough search of the garden, but the intruder had fled.

My wonderful landlords, Carlos and Maria Soto, responded immediately to the police’s recommendation to put barbed wire on the wall around the property.  Last night, I was laying in my bed watching television when, again, the dogs became excited and started barking.  I instantly turned off the lights so that I could see if anything was amiss.  At just that moment, a man lit a cigarette so that I could see him standing on the roof about 25 feet below my property.  My heart leapt with fear.  Either he was watching me, he had gotten up there to get into my garden but found the barbed wire obstructing his progress or he was just enjoying the night air.  After a few minutes, I watched him drop down the side of the building out of sight.

I have been very careful to shush the dogs when they are barking for no apparent reason.  I don’t want them to become irritating to the neighbors.  But while my dogs would unlikely be able to stop or harm an intruder, they do provide an invaluable service of warning me of potential problems.  Thank you my furry friends!
