Dear Sir,
When we need help who do call? Many times it’s the Fire Department or Red Cross. Many people don’t know that local firefighters rotate between Red Cross, Protection Civil and the Fire Department.
These brave people are ready to put themselves at risk to aid anyone who needs their help, whether it is changing a tire in the pouring rain, responding to an automobile accident, a home/car fire, or removing a bee nest from a chimney.
We have worked the Chapala Fire Department for some time. They have been a huge help with rescuing all kinds of wild and domestic animals, and assisting with environmental and wildlife protection educational programs in the public schools.
We recently stopped by to talk with them and discovered that many of their vehicles don’t run or have issues. What was even more disturbing, however, was the state of their gear and protective clothing, which in its current condition offers minimal protection at best. The gear is threadbare, full of holes, ripped, and some items are more than ten years old.
We would be pleased to hear from readers who know of any individual or group (perhaps your home town Fire Department) that would be willing to donate used, good condition protective clothing, equipment, vehicles, etc. We would gladly work with anyone from the United States or Canada who is able to donate some “newer gear“ to our local firefighters.
