Letters to the Editor - May 16, 2014

Dear Sir,

It is with great joy and with great sadness that we announce the resignation of Dr. Sam Thelin as Medical Director of Cruz Roja Chapala.

For the last two years Dr. Sam has made great strides for the lakeside community to enhance the quality and services of Cruz Roja Chapala. When he took the reins many compliance issues had been shoved aside by predecessors. He brought us into compliance in many key areas. He gave guidance to the Consejo in necessary issues we needed to address and we did, within the limits of a volunteer board, take on these challenges.

Dr. Sam has done much of the ground work to help Chapala gain a pharmacy license, create a more modern facility to serve well over 500 patients per month, move Ajijic towards Seguro Popular qualification and paid out of pocket for needed items we could not afford. Much of his time was spent recruiting bilingual doctors, writing protocols for the medical area and writing and presenting timely messages for clarification of the Mexican way to both the English language and Spanish language communities.

The joy is that now he can continue to establish his local practice and serve the lakeside community.

We thank him and wish him well in all future endeavors.

Oscar España Ramos, Presidente;

Norm Pifer, Vice Presidente; Tana Cuevas, Secretaria; Miguel Patiño, Consejero; Chick Twyman, Consejero.
