Letter to the Editor - July 18, 2014

Dear Sir,

I read the article about San Juan Tecomatlan in the June 28 edition with great interest because I live very near this wonderful community.

While I know there are needy people that live in San Juan, it’s clearly the minority and surely not the majority. Nearly all their streets are cobbled and they have a very functional sewage treatment plant. They take great pride in their plaza and I’ve yet to see a home without doors and windows. When I think of severely depressed villages, San Juan is not one of them. El Ojo de Agua, San Pedro, and La Questa are what I would consider far more needy. I respect Wendy Johnson and all she’s done to help the people in San Juan. She’s to be commended for sure. But the article paints a picture that is simply not true.
