Dear Sir,
A letter from LCS President Yolanda Martinez Llamas.
I am honored to be currently serving as the president of the Lake Chapala Society. I am the first Mexican national in the LCS’s nearly 70-year history to hold this position. Having served on the board for many years, I’ve seen firsthand the work necessary to support the expat community, as well as to integrate the local community and unite us all for the common good.
I had not planned to run for the presidency at the August 20 Extraordinary Meeting when my brief term ends. However, the flurry of controversies and upheavals by a small group of members and former leaders has so disrupted confidence in LCS that I must speak up. In letters to the editor, social media, and anonymous posts on other websites, these critics have presented a cynical and highly biased view of the LCS’s current status. They have attributed real and perceived shortcomings to intentional misfeasance by the board. That is absolutely false.
