Eggs no, empanadas yes

Chocolate eggs may be a long-standing Easter tradition north of the border but are not considered a culinary holiday treat in Mexico.

Here, empanadas dulces – delicious pastries filled with apple, cream or pineapple – are the order of the day during Semana Santa and can be found on sale outside churches and in main plazas the length and breadth of the country.
