Halloween gigs, Day of the Dead feast

All dressed up and no place to go? You’ll fit right in at lakeside hotspots that will be throwing Halloween parties on Thursday, October 31.

Los Telares Restaurant (Morelos 6, Ajijic) will celebrate the occasion from 5 p.m. with a special three-course dinner menu  for 200 pesos per person, and prizes for customers who show up in the three best costumes.  A 2x1 deal for margaritas runs all day.

At Hacienda de Don Pedro (on the highway at the western outskirts of Ajijic) the party starts at 6 p.m. with music for dancing until midnight. The 200-peso dinner special includes two glasses of wine. Bar offerings include a 2x1 price for margaritas and vampiro cocktails, 6-9 p.m. There will be prizes for the best costumes and a 50-peso donation to Cruz Roja Chapala for every “Thriller” Zombie dancer who reappears at the blow-out.

Bet on a fun time at Foliatti Casino (Centro Laguna) where the Halloween Fest cranks up at 9 p.m. The 100-peso price of admission includes open bar service, music and a costume contest.

Mel’s Steakhouse & Bar (Colon 35, Ajijic) presents Dana’s Dinner Show, a tribute to singing great Neil Diamond, starting at 5 p.m.  Expect plenty of fun, plus a Day of the Dead best costume contest. The cost is 250 pesos. Tickets from Mel’s (or Diane Pearl’s. Limited seating.

Meanwhile, Restaurante Viva Mexico Tia Lupita (Porfirio Diaz 92, San Juan Cosala) is hosting a Day of the Dead meal on Saturday, November 2, from 2-6 p.m. They will present a special pre-Hispanic menu, including cream of squash blossom soup, chicken with orange mole, fish with pink mole, huitlacoche quesadillas and cactus fruit salad. Dessert is churros with chocolate mousse and Mexican hot chocolate.  Casa More will offer a tasting of blanco, reposado and anejo Agave Azul tequila. The cost of this meal is 200 pesos, with ten percent of the proceeds going to the Operation Feed program in San Juan Cosala.  Tips and other drinks are not included.
