Christmas & New Year noshing options abound

Mom, hang up your pots and pans and get Dad out of the house for Christmas or New Year’s dinner. Lakeside area restaurants are putting on the dog for the holidays.

pg15American Legion Post 7 Chapala is putting on an all you can eat shrimpboil and chicken wings December 31 with cocktails at 1 and dinner at 2:30 p.m. 250 pesos. (765-2259)

Arileo in San Juan Cosala offers a Christmas Eve menu of clam or corn chowder, stuffed turkey and all the trimmings, crepes Suzettte with Grand Marnier liqueur, as well as their regular menu. Their New Year’s Eve special menu features beef barley soup, filet mignon with three pepper gravy, salmon with dill sauce and a Bailey’s mousse, in addition to their regular menu. (106-1627)

Armandos Hideaway is open Christmas Day, serving Waldorf salad, turkey or beef filet medallions in cognac, cake and a glass of wine, brandy or Kahlua for 300 pesos. (766-2229)

Bobby’s La Terraza Ajijic is offering elegant Christmas and New Year’s Eve dinners, including Primer Sirloin or New York strip, leg of lamb, roast duckling, Bahamian lobster tails, stuffed prawns and Baja California sea bass, starting at 495 pesos. On Christmas Day and New Year’s Day, come in for a champagne brunch between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. Also open both days from 4 to 8 p.m. Bobby’s serves up turkey and ham dinners for 195 pesos, as well as his regular menu. Hacienda Don Pedro has a special menu for Christmas Day, 2 to 8 p.m., featuring apple salad carrot soup, roast turkey and carrot cake, with two drinks, plus a tequila, all for 250 pesos. On New Year’s Eve he offers a fruit salad or spinach salad with almonds, corn soup, BBQ ribs or grilled salmon and banana cake, with two drinks plus a tequila, free wine, dance music and a dinner raffle for 375 pesos. Elegante Restaurant is closed December 24 and 25, but is offering an exquisite five-course New Year’s Eve menu of grilled shrimp with a saffron risotto, grilled asparagus salad, cheese, bread and quince jam, grilled filet, croquette potatoes, Choron sauce and fresh vanilla bean creme brulee for 950 pesos. Dinner is served punctually at 6:30 p.m. (766-1066)

El Barco hosts a December 31 dinner special, 7 p.m., and rings in the New Year with local group Los Villanos with Griselda Piña on vocals. Beginning 9:30 p.m. Cover is 100 pesos. (766-0452)

Janelle’s Garden has a varied Christmas Eve and Christmas Day menu, including roast turkey, baked ham, salmon dijon, sea bass, crunchy mahi mahi, stuffed shrimp, braised beef brisket, Angus ribeye roast, roast duckling, loin of lamb, lobster Thermidor and lobster tail. Janelle’s will also be open New Year’s Eve and will serve brunch on New Year’s Day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and dinner from 2 to 7 p.m. (766-1616).

La Nueva Posada offers a Christmas Day four-course traditional turkey dinner with all the trimmings, including their famous English-style plum pudding with seatings at 1:30 and 5:30 p.m. (766-1444)

Southern Sisters will serve turkey and ham with traditional side dishes on Christmas Eve from noon to 8 p.m. (688-1525)
