Seek out this colorful courtyard for a delightful breakfast

“Life is ours to be spent, not saved.”

This great advice written by D.H. Lawrence hangs in the entrance to Chatterley’s, the charming café located at the QQ hotel where the British author lived in 1923. Many of today’s residents of Lakeside may not know that Lawrence was enchanted by our area and wrote his controversial and political novel, ‘The Plumed Serpent,” while living here.

When exiting the coffee bar, you proceed into a bright and colorful courtyard. Lush with potted plants and flowering bushes, it is a surprising oasis. The angled walls are finished in sunny yellow, brilliant blue and cherry red. The plants have been chosen to complement the wall colors and make for a lovely setting to enjoy breakfast with a friend. I have eaten here previously and it is a venue to seek out for a leisurely meal or a special occasion, as they take such great care to prepare every dish from scratch.
